Elaine Ann “Penny” (McDermott) Bunn Obituary


Elaine Ann (McDermott) Bunn, 83, died peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022, surrounded by her youngsters. She was born in Philadelphia to Marie E. Shields and Joseph Peter “J.P.” McDermott, grew up in Drexel Hill, PA and Ocean Metropolis and Margate Metropolis, NJ and graduated from Atlantic Metropolis Excessive College in 1956. She acquired a B.A. from Chestnut Hill Faculty, Philadelphia; an M.A. from Middlebury Faculty in VT and Madrid; and a Ph.D. from the College of Pennsylvania in 1976. She taught Spanish Language and Literature at Randolph-Macon Girls’s Faculty in Lynchburg, VA, and at Rutgers College and Douglass Faculty, New Brunswick, from 1968-1981. She spent the remainder of her profession at Drew College, Madison NJ, the place she taught programs on Cervantes and the Spanish Civil Warfare. She treasured advising her college students, planning on and off campus occasions, main research overseas packages, and retired in 2007 as Professor Emerita. She lived with Parkinson’s Illness since 2000. Dr. Bunn is survived by her daughter, April, and her husband Kevin Barry, of Purple Financial institution, NJ; twin sons, Colin, and his spouse Mary, and youngsters Griffin and Elizabeth “Tilly” Bunn of Chicago, IL; and Austin and his associate Bob Hazen of Ithaca, NY; and her sisters Joan Forry of Margate, NJ, and Carol Sue (Ken) Forester of Maywood, NJ and Petaluma, CA. She was predeceased by her brothers Lt. Col. (Ret.) Joseph Barry McDermott of Louisville, KY, and Dr. Ronald Peter McDermott of Austin, TX.
